Broome County's legislature passed the new sales tax formula, --by 11 to 8
The new formula would split the sales tax revenue 50/50, but if there is economic growth, the municipalities would have a cap on how much money they would get.
Last month, municipal leaders were outraged by this proposal, but last week they decided to compromise and told legislators to vote in favor of the cap formula.
But although they passed the measure, county legislators realize the formula won't solve Broome County's financial problems.
"This one fix, sales tax redistribution, is not going to solve all our problems. It's going to take some other revenue--it's going to take a refocusing of efforts," said B.C. Legislator Mark Whalen.
The county also passed a resolution 14 to 9, to bond for 20 million dollars to help bridge a revenue gap until property taxes are received by the county.
