Greene and Marathon take home State Championships - 11/21/2009

In Class A the Greene Trojans look to stay undefeated and win the state title.

Early in the first Erin Smith puts it in, 1-0. Then in the second, the Trojans looking for another one, but Mamaroneck shuts'em down, and keeps the ball out of the net

But the one goal by Smith would be enough today, as Greene captures the Class A state title for the first time since '02.

Erin Smith: "To be honest, I didn't even think it was going in. I just tried to create something, and I saw an opening in between her legs and it went into the cage. We all just started jumping in the air, and it was awesome."

Hey, two-out-three wouldn't be bad for the section as Marathon tries to take down Port Jefferson.

Tatum Knapp puts the Olympians on the board first, 1-0. Still in the first, and it's still Knapp time. That's her second of the game, and it's Knapp 2, Port Jeff 0.

In the second now, and look at the movement. Great ball movement by the Olympians sets up McKenna Light, who puts it home, Marathon takes home another title, 3-1.

Karen Funk: "After being at the State Finals last year, and not coming out with what we wanted, we have 11 returning seniors, and we (played) with the intensity we've had all season long."
