15 Dimock Residents Suing Gas Company - 11/21/2009
Arguments in favor of natural gas drilling in New York may have taken a big blow.
Fifteen families just south of the New York border are suing Cabot Oil and Gas for polluting their drinking water.
Residents in Dimock, Pennsylvania say their drinking water had a strange odor and taste.
Now they are upset because they say the companies insisted the water would be safe after drilling and will not help pay for purification systems to clean it now that it isn't.
"Cabot as much as guaranteed that nothing would happen to our water, it wouldn't affect our water, there was no way that their drilling process would affect the drinking water. I asked them if they would help (pay) for it, and the guy down there said 'absolutely not,'" said Dimmock resident Ron Carter.
Carter said his water was tainted with a fungus as well as methane gas as a result of the drilling.
