Broome-Tioga Workforce New York Office to Reopen - 11/17/2009

(Binghamton, NY) The Broome-Tioga Workforce New York Office located at 171 Front Street will reopen on Wednesday, November 18th at 8am. Workforce offices were temporarily relocated to the Broome County Public Library and the Department of Social Services due to construction debris that entered the building. The environmental testing completed by the NYS Department of Labor, Public Employee’s Safety and Health (PESH) division concluded debris samples did not contain harmful levels of toxic substances, therefore allowing the building to be reopened. To make this determination, PESH and the County Safety Specialist reviewed both phase contrast microscopy (PCM) air sample tests and transmission electron microscope (TEM) bulk sample tests.

The Broome-Tioga Department of Social Services Day Care Unit, Welfare to Work Program and Medicaid Nursing Home Assistance will remain at the Thomas P. Hoke Human Services Center located at 36-42 Main Street in Binghamton. These service units will return to the Front Street office on Thursday, November 19th.  Until then, individuals may apply for services and meet with their day care worker at the Main Street site.  Day Care staff can be reached at (607) 343-7836. Welfare to Work Unit staff can be reached at (607) 778-8363 or 778-3096.
