We've still got a few months before softball starts making it into plays of the week, so for now we'll leave it to the guys of the gridiron. This weekend, it was all about Section 4 squads in the state quarterfinals. Here's the top trio on the latest edition of plays of the week.
Play number 3 comes from U-E's battle against Baldwinsville. The Tigers were talking upset taking a14-0 lead thanks to this Jordan Thomas house call. Thomas has been a staple on plays of the week all year, and it's a shame that this will be his last visit after U-E was eliminated.
Play #2 is a special delivery from Jimmy Miller of Forks. He just abuses the General Brown defender en route to a long td trot. The Blue Devils had plenty more where this came from. They advance to the state semis.
The top play is from Groton's Ethan Tilebein. He scored at will on Friday. And here's his best. Tilebein just rocks and rolls over the Westmoreland defense. Very nice. Groton advances.
Gulf oil platform explodes, burning off La. coast
GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore petroleum platform exploded and was burning Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast, west of the site where BP's undersea well spilled after a rig explosion.
The Coast Guard says no one was killed in the blast, which was reported by a commercial helicopter flying over the area Thursday morning. All 13 people aboard the rig have been accounted for, with one injury. The extent of the injury was not known.
