Award Winning Posters Promote Drug Awareness - 11/6/2009
Students are taking anti-drug lessons outside the classroom. The finalists for Senator Libous's Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest were on display at the Metro Center in downtown Binghamton Friday.
Students were asked to design an original poster with an anti-drug message and the winners were presented with an award from their peer leaders who say working with the students is a good way to reinforce a positive message.
"I think we can be role models to the kids and they can relate to us because it is harder to relate to an adult and we can just be good role models and they can see that we are being positive so they can be positive when they're older," said Keaton Tuller, a SV Senior.
Red Ribbon Week is one of the oldest drug prevention programs in the nation and 500 local elementary school students participated in the poster contest.
