Vestal Cancels Classes at Vestal High School - 9/9/2009

It was the first day of school for many local districts, but a mercury spill gave students at one local school an extra day of summer vacation.

Classroom windows were dark and doors were locked at Vestal Senior High School as crews worked to clean up a broken barometer.

It happened Tuesday in one of the school's science labs.

The Broome County Health Department is currently measuring air samples to  see if trace elements of mercury are still around.

Parents should tune in to FOX 40 News at ten for the latest developments or go to vestal high school's web site.
