Former Police Officer Charged With Mail Fraud - 9/3/2009
The former Johnson City Police officer who faked an assault at Calvary Cemetery is now being charged with mail fraud.32-year-old Matthew Romano plead not guilty to 20 counts of mail fraud Thursday.
Romano filed for New York State workers compensation claims and disability benefits after he lied about being assaulted by two people on December 20, 2006 while working as a police officer.
If Romano is convicted, each mail fraud count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
