Rail Trail Extension Opening Postponed

After a few minor adjustments, Vestal's Rail Trail extension will soon let walkers, roller-bladers and bike riders go the extra mile.

An additional 1.7 miles have been added on to the 2.1 mile trail. After smoothing out some road bumps and building a bridge over the Choconut Creek, all that's left is the addition of some new signs.

Vestal Town Supervisor John Schafer hopes the extension will open within the week.

Schafer says, "People from all over come here, they like the safety of it, they like the allure."

Vestal resident, Nicole Zvolensky says, "Well, I think it's wonderful because it promotes outdoor activity, exercise, all-around mental health and it gets people outside and moving, which i think everyone needs."

The Rail Trail has drawn thousands from around the area since it's opening in 2002.
