Emotional Williams stays close to home, signs with BU

JOHNSON CITY -- It was an emotional day for Johnson City Wrestler Reggie Williams.  The 5-time All-American, 2014 NYS Champion, and top 10 nationally ranked wrestler committed to wrestle at the Division I level right across the river at Binghamton University.  Williams was considering going to Oklahoma, NC State, and Iowa State, as well as BU, but settled on staying home mostly for his family.  When explaining his decision to his friends and family gathered, Williams became very emotional when talking about his parents recent health problems.  The day he won a state championship this winter, his mother was undergoing open heart surgery.

"School and athletics are important, but family always comes first," Williams said to the crowd amidst tears, and not just his.  The Williams family moved to the Johnson City seven years ago and both of Reggie's parents thanked the Wildcats family for welcoming them and becoming an extended family.  His mother said that whenever they couldn't be there for Reggie, they knew he was in good hands with any members of the JC community and know that he was in good hands.

Williams plans to study either Computer Science or pursue BU's "build your own major" program.  He also hopes that he can draw local interest to the program and pack the Events Center on his way to winning a national title.
