New Binghamton City Court Judge Sworn In

Binghamton's newest City Court judge was sworn in today:

She's Carol Cocchiola, who is filling the spot left vacant by Mary Anne Lehmann, who retired in April.

Cocchiola has worked both with the State Attorney General's Office and the Broome County D.A's Office:

"I know how the court room works. and I think that'll serve me well when people come to court who aren't familiar with that or who may feel afraid or who may feel that it is a difficult place to be. and ii hope that my being there will make it a little easier for them," said City Court judge Carol Cocchiola.

Cocchiola's appointment runs through the remainder of Judge Lehmann's term which ends December 31st.

Before that, in November, all three City Court judge seats are up for election.  Once elected, City Court judges serve a ten year term.
