M-E unveils state of the art baseball field
4/2/2014 (Updated 10:44:26 PM)The Maine-Endwell Spartans will no longer have any problem getting their baseball diamond ready for play in the harsh Southern Tier spring. Wednesday, with the help of Legendary Entertainment CEO Thomas Tull and Baseball Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Goose Gossage, the Spartans unveiled their brand new state of the art, all turf baseball field.
Tull, a 1988 graduate of M-E, donated approximately $2.2 million to build the new baseball field as well as add lights to the football field which are scheduled to be installed over the summer.
The new field features an all turf infield including the base paths and foul lines. The pitcher's mound, however, is real dirt.
The new field is named in honor of current Spartans baseball coach Gary Crooks. Tull played for Crooks when he was in high school and when asked what to name the field, Tull never hesitated in naming it Gary Crooks Field.
