Hanna on Farm Bill Passage

Things might get a little easier for New York State farmers after the House of Representative passed the farm bill Wednesday.

The Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act speeds up modernization of dairy farming, and eliminates milk supply controls and makes dairy farming easier for small operators with fewer than 200 cows.

"For dairy farmers and I think for New York with Chobani that's doing so well the farm insurance portion I think they'll like, the crop insurance portion for organic farmers, they have done very well in New York," said Congressman Richard Hanna.

Hanna says the bill will help upstate New York farmers cope with large swings in the dairy market and provide more support for local food banks.
