State Budget Negotiations Underway

State budget negotiations are underway in Albany. The State Assembly is about a quarter of the way through the governor's spending plan.
 
According to Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. She is supporting advocates' calls for almost $300 million dollars for expanding childcare, launching universal pre-k, and supporting after-school programs. Also on the agenda for Lupardo?  The fate of the Broome Developmental Center, slated for closure in 2016.

"It will become very clear to all parties that this is something that Senator Libous and I and Assemblyman Crouch feel very strongly about and we'll be insisting upon coming to some resolve," said Lupardo.

The state's education commissioner has already testified before the legislature about the governor's budget proposal.On Wednesday, the head of the department of environmental conservation will do the same.

The deadline for the legislature and governor to agree to a budget is April 1st.
