Families Lace Up Ice Skates for Winter Fun
1/25/2014 (Updated 9:51:51 PM)Town of Union residents had a chance to brave the cold weather and enjoy some outdoor activities today.
Highland Park in Endwell held their Winter Blast Festival today. Locals came out to sled on the infamous Highland hill, ice skate, warm up next to bonfires, and drink hot chocolate. The festival takes place "almost annually" depending on weather conditions. Park staff say this is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, even in the cold.
"The time of year now, you know, after the holidays everyone is kind of run down, everybody's cooped up with as cold as it's been these last couple weeks. It's nice to get out, get the family out here, enjoy the parks, get some exercise, and just see what we have to offer," said Tom Kassin, Deputy Commissioner of Public Works and Recreation, Town of Union.
Over 500 people attend the event annually. It's free, and open to everyone. The ice skating rink will continue to be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the season.
