Cold Blast Makes Schools Consider Closing

For many, last's weeks frigid temperatures happened during winter school vacation.  And with the threat of the cold weather again, some some kids will have to go to school in dangerous wind chill conditions for the first time.

That is, if there is school. Already the Owego Apalachin school district has cancelled class tomorrow because of the cold. Binghamton district officials said they will be keeping an eye on the temperature early tomorrow morning to make sure it is not too dangerous to travel to school.

"It is a cause for us to give consideration that we may have to close given that we are in a school district where a majority of our kids walk to school. But that's something we'll monitor in the morning to see if the temperatures hold true," said Kerry Mullins, Assistant Superintendent for Administration for the Binghamton City School District.

Mullins reminds all parents to make sure their kids have hats, mittens, scarves, boots, and proper coats. She also advises kids to not procrastinate on their walk and make their way directly to school.
