Millions Hoping to Become Millionaires

You have a greater chance of being struck by lightning, or a attacked by a shark. The odds of winning Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot are one in 259 million.

But, those odds aren't stopping anyone from trying their luck.

Binghamton resident Robert Finn said he doesn't normally play the lottery.  But, he was one of the millions across the country hoping to be $636 million richer.

"When the jackpot is over a couple hundred million, you have to be in it to win it," said Finn.

Tuesday's Mega Million jackpot is the second largest in U.S. history.

Mirabito cashier Tiffany Nickerson said she's been selling lotto tickets non-stop all day.

"It seems like every customer comes in with at least $5 worth of mega," said Nickerson.

Sidney resident Ronald Parsons said he has a certain strategy when it comes to picking the right numbers.

"I was picking numbers, but that didn't work out.  So I thought I was better off hitting the moving dart board to increase my chances," said Parsons.

Parsons was hoping Tuesday's drawing meant an early retirement.

"I'll know in six hours if I'm going to work or not," said Parsons.

Many said if they win, they'll take care of the necessities like paying off bills.  But, in the spirit of giving this holiday season, most said they will share it will friends and family.

"That's too much money for one person.  I would try to do as much good with it as I could," said Finn.

"That's an insane amount of money.  I would buy my friends and family whatever they want," said Binghamton resident Erika Hughes.

Both Finn and Hughes agree they would give themselves a bit of a giant treat too.

"Invest in the Giants to help turn them into winners," said Finn.

"Buy a house somewhere warm," said Erika Hughes

The $636 million jackpot couldn't of come at a better time.

"Christmas would set, that's for sure," said Nickerson.

Lotto players with tickets in hand would agree becoming an instant millionaire would be a mega holiday present.
