Bidders Find New Homes and Land at Broome County Auction

Broome County auctioned off  tax foreclosed properties Saturday. And people gathered at the Holiday Inn in Binghamton to place their bids.

Properties ranged from houses, to open lots, and even some commercial buildings.

More than one hundred thirty five properties were up for sale. Buyers came out in hopes to flip houses, buy new land and help eliminate blight in the community.

"For one, it puts properties back on the tax roll, which is, you know, a boost for the economy," said Lori Albrechta, a bidder from Sanitaria Springs, NY.
"People should support the community and do what they can do to keep their housing up, keep their community up," said John Farrell, a bidder from Vestal.

The auction is expected to bring in more than $700,000. Taxes from the auctioned properties will earn about $88,000 in revenue for the county.
