Early Morning Fire Sends Three to Hospital

An fire in Binghamton sends three people to the hospital, including an infant, after a dramatic rescue early Thursday morning.

Upon arrival at 44-46 Park Street, the Binghamton Fire Department had to do an immediate ladder rescue for three people who were stuck on the second floor porch roof.

They were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation but the fire department reports they are fine.

After the rescue, an interior attack on the fire took place to knock the fire down on the first two floors but the fire in the attic was too strong and they were forced to fight the fire from outside the building.

"Well time is absolutely critical because these people were trapped. There was enough smoke on the second floor that they couldn't survive in the second floor so that's why they came out the window onto the porch roof because that's the only place they felt that they could breath because of the smoke in the building," said Steve Faughnan the Assistant Fire Chief of Binghamton.

There is extensive damage to the left side of the house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
