FEMA Approves Floodwall Application for Town of Union

More flood relief for the Town of Union. FEMA has approved the town's application for the construction of a concrete floodwall and closure across Watson Boulevard near the former IBM country club.

The town's need for this floodwall pre-dates the flood of 2011, with the most recent push beginning in 2008. The grant is for over $259,000 to cover 75% of the project.

The town is responsible for the other 25%, or just over $90,000.

"A big benefit that we have been stressing for years is protecting the homes in Fairmont Park. And, of course, any businesses that are there now or could be coming there," said Town of Union Supervisor Rose Sotak (R).

An end date of September 20th of 2015 has been set for the end of the project.
