As part of Broadway in Binghamton, "50 Shades the Musical" was playing at the Forum Theater Wednesday night.

"50 Shades the Musical" is an original parody of the racey best seller book series "50 Shades of Gray".

The play is a spoof off the books in the minds of three middle-aged woman in a book club.

"You have the book club ladies that are there so we can laugh at ourselves, and we also poke fun at the book too," said writer and producer Emily Emily Dorezas.

"It doesn't matter if you're a big fan of the book, if you loved it, if you read it and hated it, if you haven't read it at all, there's something for everyone to love about this play," said Nick Semar who plays "Jose" in the musical.

Denise Burts went to the play with a bunch of her girlfriends for a bachelorette party.  Burts said she's never read the book, but was looking forward to a good laugh.

"I never read the book, but I love music and I think ti will be fun," said Burts.

The bachelorette, Suzanne Newswanger said "50 Shades of Gray" has been the theme of the party.  "It's fitting because I've read two of the three books.  My mother has read all three.  My fiance has even read all three.  He even dressed up as Christian Gray (the main character) for Halloween," said Newswanger.

One couple who couldn't pass up an opportunity to see the play for an obvious reason was Rick and Stephanie Gray.

"My wife has started reading some of the books that I guess this is based on.  She dragged me along because our last name is Gray, and who knows what might happen," said Rick Gray.

Dorezas said she's not surprised when men come out of the play with a smile on their face.

"We've actually gotten emails and personal messages from men that comes to the show thanking us, because they had no idea what their wives were reading.  And, there were a lot of benefits at home to coming to the show," said Dorezas.

"People walk in having their own version of what it's going to be, and you walk out loving it regardless.  With our show, you're able to escape into that world, but also you're able to laugh at it a lot as well," said Semar.
