Children Donate Crafts to Veterans at Discovery Center

Even little kids can play a part in honoring those who have served our country.

Monday at the Discovery Center children worked on projects at tables so they could donate their crafts to the Broome County Veterans Service  Bureau.

Kids wrote thank you letters, made dog tags, and put together poppy garlands, and pony bead bracelets.

"The best part is to seeing how excited the kids are about making their donations. When you tell them that when they make their crafts and then give it as a gift to a veteran they get really excited," said Gabrielle Wayman an Educator at the Discovery Center.

"I think it's important even at a young age that our children the sacrifices that our veterans have made for us," said Helen Neuhard a Vestal resident.

The kids were also given a brief history of each of the items.

Dog tags as we see them today were introduced during World War I, before that, information on soldiers' identities was stitched to the inside of their uniforms.
