Vestal Elks Club Honor Veterans and Raise Funds

Local veterans and their  family members gathered today to celebrate their service and to help support those who are currently serving in the military.

The Vetsal Elks Club hosted it's annual Veterans day appreciation dinner with nearly 150 guests. The Elks were accepting monetary and care package donations to send overseas to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. But it's not just because of Veterans day Monday. Since 2007 the club has been sending packages once a month, every month.

Donations from events like today's certainty help support the effort, but members say the group would continue to help the troops no matter what.

"Having been one, we know how it feels to get back and just get home. And we do it, it's a revver up for us," said Duane Horton, a veteran.

The guests enjoyed food, music and raffles at the celebration. Empty place settings were also set to honoring all those who never returned home.
