Not Known if Layoffs Will Affect Lockheed Martin in Owego

Approximately 600 Lockheed Martin workers in the U.S. will be getting pink slips, but the company won't say where the job losses will occur.

Lockheed says employees will be notified November 6th.

There is no information on how workers at Lockheed's Owego plant might be affected.

The plant currently employs approximately 2,700 workers, according to a company spokesman.

The "involuntary layoffs" as the company terms it, are blamed on the business environment, uncertain program funding, delays in contract awards, and an extremely competitive market.

Lockheed says that while the government shutdown did impact its business, the layoffs are independent from that event.
