Coolidge Abatement on Schedule

Coolidge Elementary School students are getting closer to the day they can resume classes in their building.

Abatement and clean up continues after asbestos was found in crawl spaces in the building back in July.  Since the start of the school year, students have been attending area school while the process is completed.

At Tuesday's board of education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Karry Mullins said the building has been divided into three sections.  So far, one section is complete and reconstruction continues in the other two.

She says everything is on schedule and they hope to bring children back to the building in December.

"That is the outset.  We were hoping that it would be sooner.  We'll know more in the next few weeks .  We're hoping for the next meeting we'll have a move in date," said Mullins.

Mullins says the mitigation process involved pouring concrete in the crawl spaces so dust can no longer get into the air.  The next board meeting is Tuesday, November 19th.
