The Science of Storytelling

Have you ever wondered why we tell stories, and why are they

A Binghamton alumnus has been studying the answers to those questions.

Jonathan Gottschall is conducting research in neuroscience, psychology and biology to show how storytelling has evolved as a  fundamental human instinct.

Monday night he shared his findings with students and the public.

"If you want information to really borough into people's minds, smart communicators have discovered you work it into a story.  Historians do this, priests do this, and religious systems do this," said  Gottschall.

Gottschall is the author of "The Storytelling Animal: How Stories Make us Human."

He teaches in the english department at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania.
