BU Soccer loses 2OT game at Syracuse

Alex Halis scored halfway through the second overtime, leading Syracuse (7-3-0) to a 2-1 victory over Binghamton (2-6-2) in a non-conference mens soccer game at the SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night. The match was televised regionally by Time Warner Sports and was also carried by ESPN3.
Halis was in the right place at the right time in the 105th minute of the match. He was in position to get a rebound and shoot it into the net.
Binghamton forced overtime when junior Ben Nicholson fired a rebound into the net in the 78th minute. It was his first goal of the season.
Earlier in the game, Stefanos Stamoulacatos gave the Orange a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. His shot, which came from the right side of the box, marked his second goal of the season.
Syracuse held a 17-6 shot advantage for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Stefano Frantellizzi, meanwhile, tied a career high with nine saves.
I thought we showed a lot of fight tonight and we were very good on the counter attack, head coach Paul Marco. I am disappointed we did not get the win but our competitiveness improved from last week and we represented ourselves well tonight.
Binghamton heads to Vermont on Saturday at 1 p.m. for its first America East Conference game of the season.
NOTES: Frantellizzi also had nine saves against George Mason on Sept. 8 Nicholson now has five points so far this season four of Binghamtons last seven games have gone into overtime.
