Hiring Today's Veterans Program Targets Employers

There are programs to assist veterans in their search for a job, but Friday kicked off a four-part series that targets potential employers.

A BU workshop titled "Hiring Today's Veterans" took place  in downtown Binghamton.

According to the federal government, the veteran unemployment rate in New York is 10.7 percent. Speakers Friday shared why hiring veterans has proven beneficial to their companies.

"Hiring today's veterans is definitely worth the investment. You know you're going to be getting someone who has self discipline behind them, someone who has had responsibility given to them, someone with mental toughness, someone who's been through both good and bad days," said Jim O'Shea the Driver Advocate Manager.

The next luncheon will be October 7th and will focus on helping veterans transition into the workplace.
