Broome County and Red Cross Prepare People for Emergencies

People in the area now know more about safety thanks to the Emergency Preparedness Fair at Binghamton University's events center today.

The American Red Cross teamed up with Broome County to host the fair.
There were more than 40 safety exhibits with different demonstrations on how to stay safe in cases of emergencies, such as floods or snowstorms. Officials say you can never be too safe.

"What we want people to stop and think about is it's not if a disaster is gonna strike, or an emergency is gonna strike, it's when. We know it's gonna happen and we can't wait until the time that the event arrives, for us to say hey what are we gonna do. So we want everybody to be prepared in advance," said Shelley Bierwiler, Community Chapter Executive for American Red Cross.

A life net helicopter made a landing on campus and officers of the Broome County fire and sheriff's offices were also on hand with tips and advice.
