The Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome Celebrates 50 Years

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome is celebrating it's 50th year  at it's current location this weekend.

On Saturday it hosted several events at it's open house including a Mortgage Burning Ceremony, and a pool dedication to Dolores Wimmer, a long time staff member who put nearly fifty years of service into the club.

Rick Materese, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome, says it's mission from 50 years ago still holds true today.

"We've accomplished a lot of things here," he said. "I've only been here a year and a half. The people who came before me did tremendous things impacting the lives of kids, particularly giving them cultural opportunities, giving them athletic opportunities, giving them educational opportunities they might not have had if they didn't have a club here"
Throughout the years, the club has been home to the likes of former NFL player Isaiah Kacyvenski, Baltimore Oriole closer Jim Johnson, and all three of the Jones brothers.
