Binghamton University Awaits Presidential Visit

Binghamton University was buzzing Thursday and not only because it was move-in day, but  also because students are anxiously awaiting the arrival of President Obama on Friday.

"I have a bunch of friends that go to upstate colleges and I thought this isn't going to happen, he'll probably go to Syracuse and then I found out he's coming to Binghamton and I was like wow that's pretty cool," said Colin Roth a Freshman at Binghamton University.

President Obama is scheduled to host a town style meeting at BU on Friday afternoon at 12:45. Students have been arriving early for the  move-in to avoid closed roads and buildings on Friday.

"It messes up the schedule and lots of things with roads and sidewalks and
businesses being closed. So overall the timing interrupts a lot but it's the President," said Rodg Rhabarla the Orientation Advisor.

While the timing may not be perfect for the President to come to BU students say they are still excited to hear what the President has to say to their generation.

"I'm hoping he'll address that finding jobs will be easier in four years. Hopefully we'll be out of this recession. And making the first payment on loans after a year instead of six months because it will be easier to find a job in a year than six months," said Melinda Ocasio a Binghamton University Freshman.

The President kicked off his bus tour through New York and Pennsylvania in Buffalo Thursday where he unveiled a plan to lower the cost of college. He is also expected to address these issues at BU Friday.
