Dick's Open early groups impress in first round

ENDICOTT -- The weather was beautiful and so was the course at En-Joie Golf Club for the first round of the 2013 Dick's Sporting Goods Open.  The crowds were slow to arrive, but they packed the course by the end of the afternoon rounds.

Heading into the afternoon, all eyes were on the later groupings.  The previous champs: Willie Wood, John Huston, and Loren Roberts; fan favorite Joey Sindelar; and Hall of Famers: Bernhard Langer, Nick Price, and Colin Montgomerie.

It took until the final hole, but Nick Perry entered the clubhouse as the outright leader at -7 after a birdie on 18.  Before that, it looked like it was the early birds that got the worm, as Joel Edwards and Bart and Brad Bryant all teed off before 11am and all finished at -6, tied for second.

As for the rest of the later groupings: Sindelar, Roberts, and Huston finished at -2, tied for 20th; Langer at +1, tied for 53rd; Montgomerie and Price both at +3, tied for 66; and defending champ Willie Wood tied for 75th at +5, leaving him with a lot of work ahead of him, if he hopes to repeat.
