Hale Irwin praises Kenny Perry's game at DSGO

ENDICOTT -- With beautiful weather Thursday, fans came out to En-Joie to check out some of the competition in this weekend's Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

They got to see the likes of fan favorites, champions past and present, Hall of Famers, and big personalities, but there's a certain golfer who stands out this year. Longtime pro Hale Irwin, who has a record 45 Champions Tour victories, gave his endorsement to Kenny Perry for this year's title.

"Kenny Perry has kind of thrown the gauntlett down and said okay guys, catch me. He's played spectacular golf this year. You look at the year that Bernhard Langer's having. You think, that's a pretty darn good year too but it's still not up to Kenny's. Kenny's so long, he hits the ball so far. But it still comes down to who's making those putts, and Kenny's making some nice putts," said Irwin.

Irwin, who won the 500th edition of the Champions Tour in 1997, has a chance to win the 1000th this weekend.
