Horseheads' Joey Sindelar glad to be back for DSGO

ENDICOTT -- Golf pro and Horseheads native Joey Sindelar is happy to be able to play in this weekend's Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

Sindelar suffers from arthritis in his back, and took time off from February to June of 2013. The road to recovery has been a long and tedious one; he has had to completely re-work his swing and the process is still far from over.

The local talent said he isn't sure how he will fare in this weekend's tournament, but now that he's working his way back, he's simply glad to have this opportunity to play.

Sindelar explained, "It would've broken my heart to, and I would've been here. I would've come here anyway but to be glad handing rather than playing would've been good but not great. I'm thrilled to be playing. I would've loved for this to be my first tournament if that's the way it was necessary, but to have been able to play a few and get the jitters out, I should at least be able to hit some good shots here."

Catch Joey Sindelar and the rest of the field this weekend at En-Joie. The tournament begins at 9:30 Friday morning.
