State Officials Warn Seniors of New Scam

State officials are warning seniors to beware of a new scam offering "free" medical alert devices to the elderly.

They say people posing as reps for medical device companies have called seniors asking for money and personal information in return for "free" medical alert equipment.

The Department of State suggests hanging up the phone if you get an unsolicited call from anyone asking for your personal information. Also, make sure to get a name, address, and phone number for the business a telemarketer represents and only give out personal information if you initiate a call to a company you know to be reputable.
