Vestal Police Prepare for Worst-Case Scenarios

SWAT teams and Vestal Police stormed into Vestal High School Wednesday, but only as a drill to prepare for worst-case scenarios.

The Vestal Police Department simulated active shooter situations.  Police officials say that if there is a threat in the school, officers first on scene will immediately enter the building to try to neutralize the threat, as opposed to waiting for additional help.

Vestal High School students taking part in the Youth Police Academy helped participate in the Wednesday drill, adding an extra element of realism by acting as  students being evacuated.
"Any time you can train and the more training you do, the more repetition you do the better you get at it.  So this is really important to us, God hope nothing ever happens in a school setting but if it did we want to be ready," said Vestal's Police Chief John Butler.

Fox 40 wasn't allowed inside the school so as to not give away police tactics.
