Southern Tier Goalie School at Chenango Ice Rink
7/17/2013 (Updated 11:32:40 PM)BINGHAMTON -- The B-Sens may be auditioning goalies of the future this week. It's the second annual Southern Tier Goalie School at Chenango Ice Rink.
The four day clinic for goaltenders ages 5-16 teaches them the ins and outs of life between the pipes. They learn new skills from some of the best in hockey, as the Senators organization boasted the best GAA last season.
During the camp, B-Sens Video Coach Matt Meacham uses drills that both Senators and B-Sens goalies go through in practice. But the professional feel does not end there.
"We've been doing video sessions before, so we go over certain drills. Just kind of, why would we do this instead of that, where the puck is, and where should I be in the net when the puck is coming," said B-Sens Video Coach Matt Meacham.
Equipment Manager Tom Severance, who runs the School, added, "A lot of the things the kids are learning is angles, positional play, crease movement, adjust your angles from the beginner's stage."
Southern Tier Goalie School continues through Friday.
