Humane Society Adopt-A-Thon

Usually you go to the mall for new clothes, but what about a new puppy?

That's what shoppers at the Oakdale Mall could do on Friday. The Humane Society hosted an Adopt-A-Thon, allowing people to come meet and play with a group of cats and dogs. Organizers say there is a great need to give these animals a home especially during the summer.

"It's kitten season now so we've been bombarded with cats.  So we're trying to get them adopted out as quick as we can because they're all great cats and deserve a home," said Derek Sturdevant.

The Broome County Humane Society currently has 30 dogs and about 50 cats available for adoption. There will be several more adopt-a-thons throughout the summer.
