Meet K-9 Officer "Mac"

CHENANGO VALLEY -- It's common to see police officers out patrolling, but have you met their four-legged co-workers?

Local residents got a chance to see one of our finest and furriest officers up close and in action Saturday.  The Broome County Sheriff's Office held a public K-9 demonstration at Chenango Valley State Park where viewers got to see Officer "Mac."

Mac showed off his ability to detect specific substances, and respond to various commands.  And during the whole time, Mac showed his unwavering obedience.

"We take a lot of safety precaution that's the first most, we don't want the dog to get injured because they are very expensive piece of equipment as well as our officer that train with us.  It takse about a good year, year and a half to build the relationship with the dog before your really solid and you feel comfortable," -said Deputy Will Andres of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Officers say they hope events like this will make people more aware of our furry officers-- and appreciate the dogs' dedication to the line of duty.
