Vestal Nursing Home Project: Should it Benefit from 'PILOT'?

Vestal residents were given an opportunity  Tuesday night to voice their opinion about the payment-in-lieu of taxes -- or PILOY program being submitted in regards to the a replacement building for the Vestal Park Nursing Home which was devastated in the 2011 flood.

Not everyone is wild about the idea:

"I know over in Endicott, the plastics manufacturing facility rescinded their PILOT request. I ask, that happens here.  We're in tough times and I think it's really a slap in the face to Broome County and a neighborhood that's going to change real quick."
The new nursing home would be constructed at the intersection of Sheedy Road and Route 26 in Vestal.

The PILOT program would allow the home to pay only 50 percent of its assessed valuation for the first five year, and 75 percent for five years after that.
