State Funding to Help Binghamton Become Safer

Some state funding is coming Binghamton's way to help make the city safer.

Binghamton was awarded a $381,700 Operation IMPACT Grant to go specifically towards reducing the areas robbery, burglary, and aggravated assault rate.

Broome County has the highest property crime rate in the state.

The money will be split between the district attorney's office, the Binghamton Police Department and the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

"All that money is supposed to be going toward the crime in the City of Binghamton. So can we ever have enough, no. Are we making strides with what we have? Yes." said Chief Joe Zikuski.
