Broome County Housing Prices

Have Broome County home prices gone up, or down? Depends on what set of numbers you want to believe.

According to the New York State Association of Realtors, the median sales price of a home in Broome County was $114,500 in May, down three percent from May of 2012.

However, the average home price last month was almost $138,000.  That's up almost 8 percent from a year ago. Over the past few years, local prices have held up better than those from around New York State.

"If you compare Broome County to New York state we've been on a consistent upward tick. Whereas New York state as a whole their average sales price has been down. It's actually just starting to come back up now," said Thomas Reid, President of the Greater Binghamton Association of Realtors.

Tioga County enjoyed a big jump. The median home price in May was almost $165,000, a jump of almost 17 percent from May of 2012.
