Endicott Police Department Merger

Endicott is creating a committee to continue to look into possibly merging the Village's police force into the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Mayor John Bertoni doesn't yet know the exact composition of the board but says he is looking for as impartial a panel as possible. Bertoni and the board are soliciting questions from Village residents about the possible merger.

"Sort of a, "I like it, convince me not to, I don't like it, convince me to." Those are the type of questions we are trying to extract from the Endicott public," said Bertoni.

Bertoni has said the merger could save the Village $200,000.

In a previous statement, Endicott Police Chief Michael Cox has said his force "looks forward to continuing to provide the high level of service which the Village residents and people who work in and visit the Village have become accustomed to."
