Owego Elks Lodge Honors Flag Day

It's a tradition that was started by an Elks Club back in 1908, honoring Flag Day.

On Thursday, the Owego Lodge  continued that tradition. The community was invited to join in on patriotic songs and learn about the history of the American flag.

Organizers say the purpose of the service is to honor the country's flag, celebrate the anniversary of it's birth and recall the achievement beneath it's folds.

"We hope that as they participate in this celebration, that they come away with a better sense of community, service to the community, to each other, to their country," said Timothy Sayer, Exalted Ruler of the Owego Elks Club

"To me it just stands for what a great country America is," said Garrett Fahey, Boy Scout.

Flag Day is Friday, June 14th.
