Juneteenth celebration kicks off with flag raising

What better way to honor African-American history than with June 15-16 weekend long Juneteenth celebration.
The event commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States,  which was finally abolished in 1865.  The Broome County Urban League, the Broome Tioga NAACP, Mayor Matt Ryan, and Councilwoman Lea Webb held a press conference Tuesday morning to announce the upcoming event and raise the Juneteenth Celebration Flag.

The celebration will have food, festivities, vendors, and music.  It will be held Saturday, June 15, from 12-5pm, at Columbus Park on Carroll Street in Binghamton.
