BU to hire more faculty through grant

VESTAL -- Students at Binghamton University may start seeing new faculty members walking around campus.

Thanks to a $12 million grant, 36 campuses will receive funding to increase the amount of faculty in specific high needs areas.  At BU, there will be an increase in staff in nursing, the PhD program in nursing, cyber security and mechanical engineering.

"Governor Cuomo has really come to rely on SUNY to help with the economic development need than providing the highly trained workforce that businesses need," said Donald Nieman, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Binghamton University.  "Our capacity to produce graduates in these fields or any other field relies on faculty."

Through the grant, BU will receive about $1.7 million, BCC will also receive over $191 thousand.
