How To Spend The HUD Grant
6/10/2013 (Updated 10:53:33 PM)BINGHAMTON -- How should the city divide up more than $2 million of the federal Housing and Urban Development Grant?
The public was invited to weigh in Monday evening on where they would like to see the money spent. As a result of the sequester, less federal funding is available for organizations that assist the homeless.
Carole Coppens, the Executive Director of Binghamton's YWCA says they are trying to plan ahead instead of worrying about funding cuts.
"We are focused on what can we do rather than sit in our offices afraid of what's coming down the pike. We're working on what can we be doing. What kind of activities we should be working on to try to prepare for whatever comes up in the future," Coppens said.
The money the YWCA received last year went to hiring another staff member to work at their homeless shelter.
