B-Mets spend night off at Charity Event

BINGHAMTON -- It was an anything but ordinary Thursday night at Little Venice.

"People can come in, they bid on us to sit at a table. That builds money for the kids," said pitcher Mark Cohoon.

It was a dinner event with the B-Mets, with proceeds going to charity.

"It really brings awareness to the Wendy's Walk for Kids. We get more Binghamton Mets fans hearing about Wendy's Walk," explained the charity's event coordinator Keli Cooper.

Wendy's Walk for Kids is a non-profit organization that supports four different children's charities. The B-Mets players are always willing to help the kids.

Cohoon shared his thoughts, "It's cool to be able to do this. We get to help out people who are in need."

"If you need help, you have people to give you a helping hand. So any charity, I think is great," added teammate Alonzo Harris.

The patrons who dined with the players were all smiles.

B-Mets Booster Club leader Jim Maggiore described his night, "Tonight I'm sitting with Cory Vaughn and Cory Mazzoni, two outstanding players for the Binghamton Mets, and it's a real thrill to sit down with them and talk baseball."

There were also autographs abounding, and the B-Mets were happy to oblige.

Alonzo Harris enjoyed meeting fans, "Once you get a chance to interact with the people watching the game, that's my favorite part. You get to interact with the people hollering and cheering for you."

"It's good to sit down and meet a lot of people that support us. People that have been season ticket holders for a really long time," said Cohoon, who sat at a table with a family who has had season tickets since 2004.

From players to organizers, it was a very special night.

Cooper summed it up, "It's really kind of a big family here."

The dinner auction raised over $800 for Wendy's Walk for Kids, and all proceeds from meals tonight will also go to the charity.
