Bringing Business Ideas to Life for BU Students
6/6/2013 (Updated 6:45:11 PM)The director of a business incubator at Syracuse University hopes to inspire SUNY schools to adopt a similar program.
John Liddy came to Binghamton University Thursday to speak to members of SUNY BEST about the success of the "Syracuse Student Sandbox".
The program gives students the resources to bring their entrepreneurial visions to life.
In five years, the program has launched more than 100 companies created by students.
"We find by practicing the act of starting a business, they're going to create jobs, they're going to create opportunities for themselves. So it's another pathway for students to take, versus just sitting in a classroom thinking about it, they're actually going to go out there and be a part of the community," said John Giddy of Syracuse University.
Liddy says 47 percent of the program's start-ups are still in business, and 59 percent are still in central New York.
