Carousels Open for Season

ENDICOTT -- The Carousel Capital of the world has re-opened its doors for the summer season.

Dozens of families have come out Memorial Day weekend to take a ride on Broome County's six carousels.  The attractions were donated by George F. Johnson in the early 1920's.  He stipulated that no admission be charged because as a boy he was too poor to ride. Families say they look forward to the activity all year.

"It doesn't cost a lot, especially in this economy.  So it's something fun for the kids to do and never gets tiring for them," said Billie Jo Seymour of Endicott.

The carousels will be open Monday for Memorial Day from noon until 8 pm.
